バイデン米大統領、港湾スト長引けば「人為的災害」と警告
(ブルームバーグ): バイデン米大統領は2日、米東海岸とメキシコ湾岸の港湾労働者のストライキについて、「人為的災害」となる恐れがあると警告し、組合との協議を再開するよう港湾運営業者や海運会社への圧力を強化した。
バイデン氏はハリケーン「ヘリーン」による被害の視察に出発する前にストに言及し、ハリケーン災害が広がる中で最も不要なのは港湾で生じつつある「人為的災害だ」と発言。港湾運営業者などが多大な利益を上げているとし、「交渉の席に着き、ストを終わらせる」時が来たと語った。
国際港湾労働者協会(ILA)は経営側の米国海事同盟(USMX)との労働協約失効後の1日にストに突入。東海岸・メキシコ湾岸の主要コンテナ港は閉鎖されている。労使は賃金に加え、自動化を巡って対立している。
米港湾スト、労組トップは意気盛ん-大統領選控え政治は労働者側寄り
USMXは、ILAが6月に交渉を打ち切って以来、誠意をもって対応していないと主張している。USMXはホワイトハウスに促され、スト期限の数時間前に約50%の賃上げ案を新たに提示したがILAは拒否した。
ILAは、新型コロナウイルスのパンデミック(世界的大流行)期に起きたサプライチェーン危機の際に外資系海運会社が得た利益のより多くの配分を求めており、バイデン氏もこの主張を支持している。
共和党の大統領候補、トランプ前大統領と民主党候補のハリス副大統領も同じ立場で、海運会社側を非難している。
USMXは2日の声明で、交渉を必要とする重要な問題の多くは錯綜(さくそう)していると指摘した上で、交渉の席に戻ることにフォーカスしているものの、そのための「前提条件に同意することはできない」と説明した。
